Chennai Super Kings are in an envious spot ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction, scheduled for December 19 in Dubai. The 5-time champions have only 6 slots to fill but have one of the biggest purses amongst the 10 teams. The defending champions released only 8 players but they had to let go of Ben Stokes, who made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 after injury concerns.
IPL 2024 Auction: Full List of Retained and Released Players
Chennai Super Kings will target an Ambati Rayudu replacement and having released overseas all-rounders Dwaine Pretorius and Kyle Jamieson, their eyes will be on a replacement player in a similar category. Fast bowler Sisanda Magala was also released by the Super Kings and it will be interesting to see if the Super Kings target an overseas pacer.
CSK have a settled core and with Matheesha Pathirana's emergence as a reliable fast bowler and Deepak Chahar's return from injury, the 5-time champions have the room to spend big on their preferred targets on Tuesday in the mini-auction.
CSK have a settled opening pair in Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad while they have spin-bowling all-rounders in Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner. CSK also have an uncapped leg-spinner in Prashant Solanki and an uncapped left-arm spinner in Nishant Sindhu. A back-up opener might be on their shopping list.
